Our Theme - Your Parade Entry!

The 2019 Kiwanis Owen Sound Santa Claus Parade theme celebrates "It's A Musical Christmas".  All types of entries are encouraged - Floats, Bands, Characters, Dance Troupes and even your animal acts (Parade “broken” of course”)! No Horses please without insurance provided in advance- Deadline for registrations is Friday, November 8, 2019.

Parade Entry Submission Form & Fees

*    Commercial entries are required to pay an entrance fee of $200
*    Government entries are required to pay an entrace fee of $25
*    Volunteer, Schools, Faith Based (Religious, etc.)  and Cultural entries are no charge
*    Fees can be made by making the  cheque payable to:  Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound.
*    Ensure that the attached Rogers T.V. permission section is signed and included with your entry.
*    Download our handy Parade Entry Checklist.  It will help you organize your entry and get it in place, on time. 
*    All entries must submit a written description of the float or entry at the time of registration.  This will be used in  
      Rogers Television broadcasts by commentators and by Parade Entry Judges.
 This should describe, in detail, the construction of the float and the background of the entry. This will be used primarily by the television commentators and will be heard by thousands of TV viewers in re-broadcasts of the Parade throughout November and December.

Insurance and Liability
Each unit must provide its own insurance coverage and agrees, by participating, to hold the Kiwanis Owen Sound Santa Claus Parade, The Kiwanis Club and the Corporation of the City of Owen Sound free of liability for any accident or injury caused by or involving a unit and its vehicles or people.

Float Safety
*    All vehicles and floats shall be inspected for SAFETY, LICENSING, INSURANCE and DECORATION
      prior to entry 
      into the Marshalling area. If the entry does not meet safety standards, participation in the parade will be denied.
*    The driver must have clear vision ahead and to the sides.
*    In the event of emergency, the driver and all personnel on the floats must be able to get off the floats
      immediately.
*    Floats must be safe. There will be no sharp edges or protruding nails.
*    Railings or handlebars must be provided for all riders who are standing. All children must be sitting.
*    All drivers must be licensed to drive the vehicles they are operating.
*    Generator and/or vehicle exhaust pipes must extend beyond the decorations. All powered equipment shall be
      CSA/UL approved and in good working condition.ire Extinguishers (ABC 10 lb. capacity minimum), safety chain
      and safety hitch chain are required on applicable floats.
*    Towing vehicles must be in good mechanical condition and be properly serviced.
*    NO OPEN FLAMES ARE ALLOWED.

Float or Entry Construction:
*    All floats and parade entries must be decorated!!
*    There shall be only ONE SANTA CLAUS and he will ride on the (official) Kiwanis Owen Sound Santa Float
​*    Santa will appear on the Kiwanis float at the end of the parade.
*    Each entry is responsible for its own material and services.
*    All entries must be decorated to parade standards.
*    If the float is self-propelled, the minimum length will be ten (10) feet. If a truck or tractor draws the float, the cab
      must be decorated. Entries should be no higher than 18 feet.
*    Any animals must be parade broken and proof of cleanup crew must be provided prior to the parade.
*    Any horses in the parade must have proper insurance documents provided in advance

Parade Day Conduct
*    All entries must be decorated to parade standards.
*    All vehicles and floats shall be inspected for SAFETY and DECORATION prior to entry into the Marshalling area.
*    If the entry does not meet safety standards, participation in the parade will be denied.
*    All entries must conduct themselves in an orderly fashion. Marchers must walk behind the entry
       NOT IN FRONT OF IT.
*    All participants must be dressed in parade theme attire.
*    There will be NO STOPPING during the parade once it is underway. Marchers must be aware that stopping or slowing down to perform along the parade route seriously affects the spacing and consistency of the parade Any marchers causing the parade to stop will be taken out IMMEDIATELY! Once a pace has been set, the minimum/maximum distance between entrants will be 50’ and 100’ unless otherwise advised.
*    PARTICIPANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO THROW ANTHING ALONG THE PARADE ROUTE.
      No candy or other “give-aways” to be thrown from the parade entry. If any entry does throw things from the float,
      the Marshalls have the authority to pull the entry from the parade on the spot.
*    No flyers or any advertising to be handed out along the route.

NOTE:  REFUSAL TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTION OF PARADE OFFICIALS WILL RESULT IN THE IMMEDIATE EXPULSION OF THE OFFENDING UNIT FROM THE PARADE.

Getting to the Marshalling Area
Parade entries should come into the line-up area using the entrance to 2nd Avenue East through the entrance off 3rd Avenue East, (at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre)

Your pre-assigned float position number will be posted on the west side of the street, on the telephone pole. In the event of a problem, please call the Parade Line – Up Marshall on their cell who will assist you.

NOTE: Any entries who have NOT pre-registered WILL NOT be permitted into the parade.

The parade will formally start moving out onto 2nd Avenue East at 10 a.m. sharp! The formal end of the parade is when all entries have come off the route into the disbanding area along 3rd Avenue East, past 8th Street.

If a float/vehicle breaks down, move it to the side of the road. 

The map shows the location of the sections, the marshalling area, parade route, and disbanding area. Note: that the parade route makes a full loop; you will end up back where you started. Click here for the map.

The Parade will proceed south along 2nd Ave. E. to 8th St. E. and then east to 3rd Ave. E. and then north on 3rd Ave. E. then to 9th St. and 3rd Ave. E. The parade will make a complete loop, with your float ending up where it began.

Parking in the Marshalling Area
There will be no vehicular traffic within the marshalling area other than the actual floats. Car-pool close to the area; walk-in your float participants! After unloading, vehicles should continue directly to parking in nearby lots to wait for the parade to finish. Note: Please respect the wishes of private parking lots & property owners.

Your entry will be pre-assigned a number which will also appear on the telephone pole closest to your starting position Parade Line Up will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp at your pre-assigned position. Line up starts from 2nd Avenue and 13th Street through to the Bayshore Community Centre. A representative from Kiwanis will call your contact person before the parade to provide your line information. A Line Up Parade Marshall will be available by cell phone day of the parade. They will be stationed in the Beer Store / National Grocers/Wholesale Club Parking Lot and easily identified by the florescent green vest and Kiwanis Logo.
